Arun to Adur Farmers Group

welcome to the arun to adur farmers group

The Arun to Adur Farmers Group was first established in 2015 with funding through the Countryside Stewardship Scheme Facilitation Funding. The group are now a very active forward thinking farmer-led group committed to improving the farmed environment at a landscape scale, and delivering a range of environmental services for our local community as part of a sustainable and profitable farm system.
The group has several projects on the go at all times, focused on everything from soil health to supporting farmland birds. Members get together regularly for training sessions, discussions and socials to share ideas, learn from each other and external speakers. The group also has a focus on a number of high priority target species which are indicative of the area, these include Water Vole, the Duke of Burgundy Butterfly, Grey Partridge, Lapwing and Corn Bunting which are declining species of farmland birds and uncommon and rare arable flowers such as Cornflower.

The group’s dedication to biodiversity is providing results, with the Duke of Burgundy Butterfly population increasing and expanding into the Wiston and Steyning areas since the group has been working together.

farmer land holdings

The Arun to Adur Farmers Group covers the area of chalk between the River Arun and River Adur, currently has 32 farming members farming a total 26,000 acres, which equates to approximately 80% of the total area within our boundary.

We are the nearest farm cluster project to the communities within Adur and Worthing, Arun District Councils and the people of Steyning (a combined population of 321,369 according to the 2011 census).
